At EyeSmile, we recommend a dental hygiene appointments every six months for patients with healthy gums. If you have had gum disease, are having any orthodontic treatment, or you have a high risk of tartar build-up, we may recommend a three or four monthly appointment, based on your dental needs. The right interval will be recommended by your EyeSmile dental hygienist.

The majority of patients do not find a scale and polish painful. Patient with sensitive teeth or inflamed gums may experience some mild discomfort during the ultrasonic scaling. Our dental hygienist will apply a topical anaesthetic gel to any sensitive areas, working at your pace, ensuring you are comfortable throughout the treatment.

Airflow treatment is a guided biofilm treatment therapy, using pressurised warm water, combined with air and fine powder. It is effective in removing plaque biofilm, along with staining, and early tartar build up from your teeth and below the gum line. Many patients find this more comfortable than traditional polishing. It is also effective in removing surface stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.
