Time, technology, undivided attention.
A standard NHS sight test allocates around 20 minutes. EyeSmile premium examinations run to 60 minutes — with time to understand your visual history, explain what the technology reveals, and discuss recommendations without pressure.
OCT retinal imaging, routinely skipped in high-street settings, is available as a standard add-on at every examination — detecting early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration and over 30 systemic health conditions.
- 01
No hidden charges
Examination fees cover your clinical time in full. Technology add-ons such as OCT or Optomap are always explained and offered as optional extras.
- 02
Written quotation on eyewear
Every frame and lens combination is priced in writing before you commit. Lens upgrades are presented clearly so you can compare options at a glance.
- 03
Unhurried appointments
Longer appointment slots mean clinicians have time to explain what they see and why each recommendation is made — not a 15-minute conveyor belt.

Questions about optical fees
Cannot find what you are looking for? Our team answers every enquiry personally.
Are NHS eye tests available at EyeSmile?
EyeSmile Optical operates as a private practice. We do not offer NHS-funded sight tests. Our fees reflect unhurried clinical time, advanced technology and personalised care that goes beyond the scope of a standard NHS examination.
What is included in the examination fee?
Your examination fee covers your full clinical appointment with a GOC-registered optometrist. OCT retinal imaging and Optomap ultra-widefield imaging are technology add-ons offered at a separate charge — we will always explain these and seek your agreement before proceeding.
Are lens prices included in the frame price?
Frames and lenses are priced separately so you can make informed decisions about both. Once your prescription is confirmed, we build a written quote showing the frame, your recommended lens type and any coating options before you place an order.
Do you offer any payment plans for eyewear?
For higher-value eyewear orders we can discuss staged payment arrangements. Please ask your optician at your appointment and we will explore what is available for your specific order.
How long does it take for glasses to be ready?
Standard orders are typically ready within 7–10 working days. Complex prescriptions or specialist lens materials may take slightly longer. We will give you an accurate lead time when your order is placed.
Can I use my EyeSmile prescription to buy frames elsewhere?
Yes. Your prescription belongs to you and we will always provide a copy. If you would like eyewear dispensed by EyeSmile, we are happy to guide you through our frame collection and match a lens that suits your prescription and lifestyle.
